YOUNG SOUTH ASIAN / VOLUNTEERING
Start with intention.
Listen first
Start by asking community members what support would be useful.
Choose your contribution
Consider education, communication, environment or coordination based on your skills.
Reflect and improve
Record what you learn and ask for feedback from the people involved.
CONTRIBUTIONS THAT MATTER
Bring a skill.
Build a relationship.
Useful volunteering starts with understanding what is needed and agreeing on a contribution you can realistically sustain.
Learning support
Help prepare materials or support peer learning when invited by a community or education partner. Specialist roles need appropriate experience.
Communication and storytelling
Contribute writing, design or translation with permission, accurate information and respect for the people represented.
Activity coordination
Support planning, logistics and participant communication under clear guidance from the responsible organizer.
A volunteer’s preparation checklist.
Know the purpose
Ask how the activity was chosen, who helped shape it and what a useful contribution would look like.
Understand the role
Clarify the schedule, supervision, required skills and any expenses. Agree on boundaries and realistic responsibilities.
Think about dignity
Avoid promises you cannot keep. Obtain consent for stories and images, and respect people’s choices about participation.
A few questions, answered.
Can I participate without prior experience?+
Experience can take many forms. Start by identifying what you want to learn and the time you can realistically offer. Any future opportunity will have its own published requirements.
How do I find a confirmed opportunity?+
Check program and event pages for an announced date, named organizer and clear participation details. The activities currently shown are proposed concepts.
What happens when I complete the interest form?+
